SACPLAN bursary is offered by the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) which is the Council of members appointed by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. In order to be awarded with this bursary, applicants need to be studying towards a qualification in planning.


The maximum amount of SACPLAN bursary is R40 000 per year. This covers for students’ registration and tuition fees. The remainder can pay for other costs related to the academic year the bursary is awarded.

Who Must Apply?

The minimum application requirements for SACPLA bursary is as follows:

  • You must be accepted to study at an accredited planning school
  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Be studying towards a planning qualification (undergraduate and postgraduate)
  • High academic achiever,
  • Be able to prove your financial need for the support

Directions To Apply for SACPLAN Bursary

Here are documents that must be submitted together with your application form:
ID document (certified copy),
Matric certificate (certified copy),
Proof of registration/ acceptance from an accredited planning programme/ school (on tertiary letterhead),
Current tertiary students: latest academic record/ transcript (on tertiary letterhead) (certified copy),
Breakdown of costs for the study programme for the year,
3 months latest bank statements from person currently paying for your studies,
Full CV (of background and working experience),
Personal statement/ motivational letter (max 2 pages),
Two written references.
