ABSA Bursary

ABSA bursary are financial assistance given to applicants who are studying at any university with the aim of pursuing a career in the world of finance and related fields of study. Absa seeks to increase a pool of critical skills and individuals who are properly trained and qualified within the financial sector in South Africa.

ABSA makes available close to 100 bursaries every year and these can be renewed when students pass and submit their results.

Bursaries assist university students to pay for their study costs towards the following expenses:

  • Agricultural Science

For students who are registered in Agricultural Science, Absa has determined which subject the students who receive their bursary must major with. These are the subjects that should be taken as majors:

  • Plant Production
  • Agronomy
  • Animal Science
  • Viticulture
  • Soil Science
  • Horticultural

Absa Bursary Application Requirements

In order to qualify for Absa bursary, below is a criteria that has been set by the bank:
Absa bursary applicants must be enrolled at any university in South Africa that is recognized by the Department of Higher Education (DHET)
You much achieve a pass mark with 70% for the first semester
You must not have any record of crime

ABSA Bursary Matriculates Qualifying Criteria
  • Achieve 80% pass mark in June examination
  • Applicants must be prepared to study full time the year after completing matric at an accredited
  • South African University to achieve their choice of study degree.
  • Applicants must not have any record of crime
  • Must be a South African citizen
Absa Bursary Condition

All applicants must be South Africans

  • Hold a valid ID Book
  • If you are already accepted at the university, you must attach proof with the documentation
  • Your studies must fall within the sector in which the bursar operates (Banking and Finance)

Absa Bursaries Applications Closing Date

Bursaries usually open the 15th April and close the end of July of each year. We encourage students to apply early so that the process can be concluded before the closing date. Note this bursary is now closed, more bursaries available here
